Another Millie’s Mark Award

We are so proud to announce we have achieved Millie’s Mark Accreditation for a second time.

About Millie’s Mark

Millie’s Mark is the gold standard in paediatric first aid for childcare providers.

Millie’s legacy

Millie’s Mark is named after Millie Thompson, pictured below, who died after choking on food at a nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old.

Millie’s parents, Dan and Joanne Thompson, founded Millie’s Trust and have successfully campaigned for changes to first aid requirements for childcare providers.

“Millie’s Mark is our gorgeous daughter’s legacy, and to see the development of a voluntary scheme mark introduced into nurseries is an achievement not just for us, but for parents everywhere. We put our children into the hands of childcarers and we expect they will be cared for in the best possible way. A setting achieving Millie’s Mark is an exceptional achievement for not only the nursery but for the children and the parents too.

The achievement of the mark acknowledges that staff would be confident in maybe one day saving a child’s life if they needed to. Confidence is a key factor in the administration of first aid and Millie’s Mark allows nurseries to feel confident in their own team.

Our journey towards this mark has been tough, hard work and there have been many tears shed, but we are so amazingly proud that this mark is now established.

We would like to acknowledge every person and every childcare establishment that has supported the petition and the development of the mark, as without your support this would not have been possible.

Butterflies Graduation – Saturday 14th August

It is that time again that we prepare to send our pre-school children off to their next exciting adventure at school.  We are busy planning a special (covid-friendly) event for our school leavers.  The children and their parents will join us in small separate groups of 4-5 families at a time in our nursery garden where we will come together to celebrate the children’s time at Acre Wood.  It is an incredibly special event where their is never a dry eye to be seen. Each child will be given a set time to attend so please take a look at your emails for this information.

Ellie – Class of 2020

Meet Our Deputy – Teri

Teri has been employed by Acre Wood since June 2014 where she joined as a Qualified Nursery Practitioner (DCE).  In Teri’s first 18 months she was promoted to Area Supervisor, SENCO co-ordinator, and very quickly our Deputy Manager.  Teri also took on her Level 4 Qualification in Early Years and has attended various training courses to support her role as SENCO.  Teri has a heart of gold and works tirelessly to support our children with additional needs and was one of the key members in supporting the nursery during the first lockdown.

We are incredibly lucky to have Teri on our team, supporting the Nursery Manager Gemma in keeping the nursery a fun, safe rich learning environment for all.

Just a little longer

We are so grateful for all of the patience you have shown during these past few months. We are continuing to follow the government guidelines relating to social distancing and indoor spaces and with this in mind we will continue to collect your children from the set entrance areas until further notice.

It would be lovely to be able to welcome you all through our red door once again, however until we have been advised it is completely safe to do so we ask for your patience and support just a little longer.

Should you have any questions we will be happy to chat the current guidance through with you

Many thanks, as always

Gemma, Teri & the Acre Wood team

Hello Sunshine

The sun came out for a little while so we could all have fun in our garden area

Whilst the rain seems to have fallen on us again, it doesn’t stop our children having lots of fun, both indoor and outdoors, enjoying activities such as story time, creative play and fun in the tree house

Let’s hope we see the sun again really soon

Welcome Back

During the Covid-19 lockdown Acre Wood remained open to care for children of Critical Workers and we are pleased to say from 1st June 2020 we reopened our doors to welcome back all of the children who had been spending time at home with their parents.

We are looking forward to seeing more of you over the coming weeks.

We have been working hard putting together ‘Bubbles’ where the children will spend their days with key staff members and friends.

If you require more information on any of our Covid-19 Plans, please check out the Parents page where you will find a link to our policies.

See you all soon
